Where should we make these photographs?
I am usually eager to photograph families and individuals in places that are meaningful to them or that may reflect their interests. It's not my aim to just show that you can dress up and behave. I'd like to show some of your personality, particularly the aspects you want to have shown. When my photo subjects are in an environment where they're comfortable, they relax and enjoy themselves more, and look better in the final product. If there is some activity you love, that can make for some very fun portraits.
What should we wear?
Whatever you're comfortable in. I'm not one who pushes for matching outfits, but if that's your thing I'm still good. There are some bright colors and patterns that don't work as well as others, but we can talk about that.
What can we do with our copies of the photos?
In most situations, you can do whatever you would like for your own personal enjoyment of the images. Put them on coffee mugs, holiday cards, calendars. Generally, any usage that could be considered commercial or editorial is prohibited (e.g., if some big shoe brand wants to use my photo of you in advertising, or when you win that Nobel and TIME Magazine wants it. Tell those folks to come talk to me about licensing.) In some cases I may ask you to sign a model release.
